In this difficult economic period, distasteful as it may seem, bankruptcy is often the most practical and cost effective remedy for clients suffering financial distress.  I do not handle complex business bankruptcies (think General Motors or Lehman Brothers) but I can help with insolvency matters where there are assets to be protected and exemptions to be urged.

Persons upside down in their homes (often referred to as being "underwater") may also benefit from the protection of the bankruptcy act.

Gather all financial information...

I only do Chapter 7 Bankruptcies.  These are bankruptcies where all your assets are listed and all your debts are listed.  The Bankruptcy Court will decide which assets you are entitled to keep and all the rest, if any, will be used to pay your creditors.

Many cases have no assets (ie., no assets that are not EXEMPT).  If an asset is exempt, you get to keep it if the  papers are done correctly.

List all CREDITORS...

2. Addresses
3. Amounts owed

List all ASSETS...

1. Type of Assets
2. Location
3. Value
